DIM3 - Interface layout change

Primarily, our idea revolved around the idea of using the interface of a circle, where the buttons that navigate the user around the global warming website would be curved along the bottom. However as we have planned to have extra pages for some of the pages i.e. explaining what global warming is step by step, and then the 'small things' tips pages - it wouldn't be very user friendly if the user has to click through the whole linear structure again just to find a particular page i.e. usability and flexibility is important.

Hence we have changed our interface layout from circular to a more structure rectangular layout. The navigation bar will be situated on the left, and any sub-directory pages will be listed under the primary directory button in the navigation bar, allowing the user to flick through the pages in any order and at any time. It's more flexible and it's an interface that allows us more space for both our information text and illustrations.

Content Design - Scan

Here's the scan for our latest storyboard update, of our the dancing part is going to be organised.
To add more 'viral'ness to our video, we'll have the 'free iPod Earphone Covers' at the end of our ad, before the apple icon comes on.
'Broad cast your playlist!'
'wireless headphones'
'iPod Classic'
'go to your nearest apple store'
'buy a new iPod Classic'
'& collect your free iPod, Earphone, Covers!'
'apple logo'
- what do you guys think?

DIM3 - Scans for illustrations

Printscreen of how to trace an image in Illustrator :)
- add a new layer for the image, lock it
- add a new layer and use that layer to draw on the original, tracing it, basic outlines

Here are the scans for our Global Warming Website - my original sketches, and my bigger and more detailed sketches :)

Plans for the 'What is Global Warming' Pages

'Definition of Global Warming' Page

'Why is it happening' - Page

'What's the effects of Global Warming' Page - The following 1-2 scans are the images that display the effects i.e. climate change, sea level risings, which will be the images that change

'What's going to happen now?' Page

'What can you do to help?' Page & Basic layout of the 'small things' tips page

Here are the images that I would like Kelly to draw up in illustrator :)

Some of my drawings here aren't very good, so it's better if you can find a better picture on google images to use as a guide in Illustrator. It's better to use in Illustrator because then the images would save as a VECTOR image, and it can be more flexible to use in Flash :)

Okay so when you trace these images in Illustrator

- copy and paste the scan image onto one layer, and then lock that layer

- add a new layer, and use the line/pencil tool to draw along the basic lines of the image :)

- You can look at the printscreen that I included for you at the top of this blog.

- Save it as just the black outline, and then I'll live paint them. - or if you'd like, you can colour them in too :)
- Keep the illustrations simple, like our leaf design.
- Thanks a lot Kelly! If you need any help or any questions, just message or call me okay <3

'Contact Us' Page

Hey Kelly and Pauline

If you guys are reading this on Friday morning, and can't see any scan uploads yet. It's coz I haven't scanned them yet lol. I just finished off the plans for DIM3 global webpage for Kelly to start illustrating them using illustrator. But I'll help (of course) with the illustrations.

Kelly - I think you should concentrate on doing the illustrations for the 'tips' pages okay. You'll see what you have to draw up when i scan them all up. My drawings aren't the best in some of them, so yeah, best to google up some better images :) but of course keeping them simple.
If you can, just do the black outline of the images okay, making sure they all join up. I'll put the colour in so that it goes with the colour theme. :) I hope you get what I mean haha x) - call me if you don't okay? *MUAH* :D

Okay, I'm going to get some sleep now, so tired. I'll scan these images first thing in the morning when I wake up and upload. Sorry if this is all delayed! I literally filled up that little sketch book of mine with plans (-_-) haha. So that's gonna take a while to scan.

P.S. I'll work on content tomorrow, and hopefully get a lot done =T YAY.

MUAH*

Oh yeah I've been asking around for microphones, but yeah, not much success. Might just end up using my webcam or pauline's microphone okay? we should be alright :)

Content Design

Totally, like totally last minute idea for our viral video:
Dancing - but everywhere! But it's people who dance, who are REALLY dancing as if no one is watching. And the dancing, it happens everywhere and anywhere. We can film using my digi cam - dance at uni, outside uni, in my backyard, on the bed, etc.....

Design Organisation - Things to do!

Content Design
  • Fix up storyline, need to add more of a twist - maybe make the party BIGGER i.e. add balloons, circus animals, clowns, any other ideas?
  • create the extra illustrations if needed i.e. balloons, extra characters
  • find music - we need clubbing music for the start
  • edit music - music has to be in time with the video, so I guess we've gotta finish off the animating (at a good pace) first
  • question: should we do jibberish for the dialouge? and record it, instead of the speech bubbles, because I think that might be more interesting :) / or even record our voices speaking because reading the speech bubbles slows downs the video
  • continue animating
  • WRITE UP THE RESEARCH DOCUMENT
  • We need to cover these topics in the doc:

Theme of the company and/or product and how this could translate to a dynamic,
visual concept

Research:
o Who/what is the product
o Who is the target audience
o What have the company used in the past
o What is unique about its capabilities that might resonate with other ‘well
known’ ideas (ie. intertexual referencing)
o Are their aspects of viral marketing that lend themselves to this promotion
Concept evolution & brainstorming
o Research some creative techniques for innovating (SCAMPER, ‘cut-up’,
morphological matrix, mind-mapping, Pritchen’s ‘creative kickstarts’, Oblique
Strategies, etc.)
o refine and define the best concept
The concept
o Is it interesting? Does it have a unique angle? Is there a ‘viral’ component to
how it could be used?

  • We really need to point out HOW our video is a VIRAL video, what's so extreme about it - perhaps that it's made by hand? Kind of like stop motion, these characters have their own little world and language (if we use the jibberish language) etc (O_O)

DIM3

  • Research and word blocks for the website i.e. 'explaining what global warming is' is the main part, the tips for helping global warming is pretty much done, I think
  • Question: Should we add a (fake) button to link to twitter or facebook? to make the website look more authetic
  • Illustrations for the global warming interactive, tips pages
  • draw up storyboard for animating the images (so they move and make the site look more interesting)
  • buttons for the website - need to put in actionscript / I think it's better to make sure all the pages have been built, along with its animation before we build the actionscript to link them all together
  • MAJOR RESEARCH DOCUMENT - refer to examples Dean has given us
  • We need to cover the following topics:
  • Your document should include the following and any other relevant information:
    Title
    Establishment of the Brief
Management of team – allocation of roles.
    Timeline
    Research
    Concept development
    Flow charts
    Information architecture
    Schematics/ wire frames
    Presentation
    Testing
    Content Management
    Upload delivery
