DIM3 - photos for tips

tip - instead of turning on the lights, open up your shutters and curtains and use natural sunlight :) be like a flower
tip - switch to using energy saving light bulbs through out your house

tip - rollerblade, walk, ride your bike to school if its in the local area, be active and save petrol. Plus it can be more fun! :)

tip - switch off all the lights when they're no longer in use. It's a small thing, but it can add up to a big impact.

tip - switch off all your electrical appliances that you are no longer using i.e. laptop, computer, gaming console, air con and the list can go on.
tip - help out your mum one day with hanging out the washing, instead of using the clothes dryer. Remember to only use the washing machine if there a full basket of clothes.

tip - rug up in layers instead of turning on the heater
tip - take shorter showers, because using hot water uses up a lot of energy

DIM3 - Looking at other websites for ideas

http://www.climateark.org/?gclid=CIG1zZfN-JwCFado5QodfgOTbA

Description: CO2FX is a web based multi-user educational game which explores the relationship of global warming to economic, political and science policy decisions. The game is driven by a systems dynamics model and is presented in a user friendly interface intended for the high school user.

The interface of this global warming website is very gentle, and easy to grasp when you first look at it. The colours are complementary - it kind of gives the visitor a little sign of hope that stopping global warming is possible.

This website's aesthetic is very plain, very textual - saying too much in one go. For someone who wants to learn about global warming, they might get confronted with all this text, where they have to read through it all before understanding exactly what is going on.

Things what we want to aim for:
- avoid saying too much with too much information and pictures.
- simple is best
- be innovative with the use of colours and its connection with the object

It's not like we don't know what global warming is, but it's good to just do some basic research on it, so that if we do need to make a reference to some facts, it's based on REAL references :D Also, we'll need the global warming information to fill up our information website. (Y)
Global warming - wikipedia:
Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans since the mid-20th century and its projected continuation. An increase in global temperature will cause sea levels to rise and will change the amount and pattern of precipitation, probably including expansion of subtropical deserts.[7]

Content Design - iPod Marketing Development

What will be our chosen theme?
How will this be translated to a dynamic visual concept?

Research:
Who/what is the product?
iPod classic
wireless playback - invisible wireless headphones
extra functionality: able to broadcast their playback to other listeners within a defined range, takes podcasting to a new level, allows user to become a pirate DJ broadcaster

Who is the target audience?
teenagers, young adults, younger generation

What have the company used in the past?
*check out the youtube ads
the earphones are a big part of iPods, being white and very distinguishable the the iPod icon of the black sillouhette which dances across the screen upon a colourful background.

What is unique about its capabilities that might resonate with other 'well known' ideas (i.e. intertextual referencing)

Are their aspects of viral marketing that lend themselves to this promotion

iPod comparisons between different models:

http://www.apple.com/ipod/compare-ipod-models/

Questions to keep in mind:

- should the iPod that we are marketing model from the iPod classic or nano?

- What should the earphones look like?

Content Design - iPod Viral Ad Examples

'These next generation iPods have all the functionality of the currently existing versions but in addition, they provide for wireless playback making use of the new patented 'Apple' invisible wireless headphones. In addition, not only can the user listen to his/her music without the usual headphones and wires hassle; they can broadcast their playback to other listeners within a defined range - this takes podcasting to a new level and allows the user to become a pirate DJ broadcaster.'

Content Design - Viral Marketing Definition

Assignment 2C
Major Project - Interactive Online Promotional

'The growth in online marketing and advertising is changing the dynamics of how businesses communicates to their potential customers. In particular 'viral marketing'has been foundto be incredibly successful.' - copied from the assignment criteria

Okay, so our major assignment is asking us to create an online marketing campaign concept for the next generation of iPod devices - in terms of using viral marketing as the key. Before we can make any plans on creating such a campaign, we need to first understand what viral marketing is, and the effectiveness of such a tactic - hence we would be able to follow suit.

From wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viral_marketing

Viral marketing - uses pre-existing social networkds to produce increase in brand awareness or to achieve other marketing objectives (such as product sales) through self-replicating viral processes etc. / word or mouth, use of the internet (video clips, interactve flash games, images etc)
Need to identify individuals with high Social Networking Potential (SNP) and create Viral Messages that appeal to this segment of the population and have a high probability of being passed along
'spontaneous word of mouth enthusiam'

Here's a quick video from youtube that demonstrates the basics of the importance of using viral marketing - underlining that it both saves money and time if word of mouth is to be used instead of expensive marketing techniques that involve commercial advertisement etc.
